Neil writes: I was joined at Brookside on a beautifully sunny afternoon by three familiar faces, Mike, Jacob and Daniel, and one newcomer, Helen.
We left Cambridge along the southern busway and the DNA path, then passed through the Shelfords and Whittlesford. At Duxford, we stopped for a few moments to watch WW2 planes (possibly Spitfires) flying above the air museum, then proceeded via Hinxton to Ickleton.
I'd planned to go over Coploe Hill, but Jacob suggested a route I'd not used previously, via the road to Great Chesterford and then a track up to the hill. Daniel left us at this point, needing to get back to Cambridge early, so the four of us remaining continued to Strethall, past Audley End and through Saffron Walden to Ashdon.
We arrived at the museum shortly after four, where we found that the all-day group had been early, and already left. On our return, we stopped off briefly at the Roman burial mounds at Bartlow, then reentered Cambridge on the Roman Road. My total mileage for the day: 44 miles. Neil Spenley
